Congratulations to Marek Soszynski on winning the Lightning (Buzzer) Tournament on Monday 19th July with a perfect score of 7 wins from the 7 rounds. This was our chess club’s first over-the-board ‘event’ at the Minworth Social Club since the initial lockdown.
A reminder that, as usual, the Chess Club will not be meeting on Bank Holidays: Monday 31st May and Monday 30th August. So, chessplayers will next be attending Minworth Social Club on Thursday 3rd June from about 7pm.
The Minworth Social Club will reopen indoors from 17th May, which means that chess players can start to attend again on Monday and Thursday nights. Certain restrictions will still apply, e.g. patrons will be expected to wear masks when not seated.
Great news! If all goes well, we expect to resume our club nights from Monday 17th May 2021, which is when the Lockdown is supposed to ease. More information nearer the date.
Not much point in looking up grades because no one has been playing over-the-board chess anyway? Then you may have missed the fact that the English Chess Federation has permanently changed from 3-figure grades to 4-figure ratings.
